More than 40 volunteers turned out for the cleanup on October 5, 2024 at Edgewood Historic Cemetery, 989 E. High Street. Check out the wonderful photo gallery below!
Notable progress was made along Keim Street near Beech Street where the steep bank was quite overgrown before Pottstown Rotarians, Red Horse Motoring Club members, and other volunteers wielding chainsaws and other tools dug into the project.
Russell Gofus of Houck and Gofus Funeral Home brought his rig and know-how to remount several fallen tombstones at no charge to the Cemetery. Find Solutions Properties rented and operated a chipper, and The Pourhouse and Jack Cassidy’s Irish Pub, both located in the Hobart’s Run neighborhood along High Street, donated food to fuel hard-working volunteers.
The four-hour effort will be apparent during the upcoming Living History Tour, the third in a series, this time featuring “The Infamous of Edgewood” and local ghost stories on October 19 (raindate 10/26) during three tour times: noon, 1 p.m., and 2 p.m. Individuals interested in purchasing tickets can email kelly@historicedgewood.com or call Kelly Fenstermacher at 610-506-7033; information also is posted on the Edgewood Historic Cemetery Facebook page.
Matteo Iadonisi from ABC News in Philly came to Pottstown to create an uplifting story about this ongoing community effort.
